Hi, I am new to the forum (as well as Porsche), and yestrday, I came across the following two 996s:-

1. ‘01 C4 with GT3 kit and wheels, 6000km, silver with black interior

2. ‘00 C4 20,000km, black with gray interior (costs US$7k less)

The ‘01 C4 is extremely new and well looked after, the condition of the ’00 is also quite good. I test drive only the ‘01 C4 and find that I can live with one of these as a daily car (currently ‘01 E55 AMG), and immediately fell in love with it.

Is there any difference between the ’00 and ’01 C4? Which one should I go for?

I have not considered the C2 yet. Does the AWD in the C4 make a big difference?

Would be grateful for any valuable advice.

The factory warranty on the 01 will disappear next year regardless so you'll need to purchase an after market warranty or take the risk you self. A warranty costs about US2.5k for 6 yr/72k miles. I got one on my 99C4 with 17k when I bought it.

My worry about the GT3 kit is ground clearance etc when parking etc. The normal C4 clears pavements fine.

I think you'd be happy with either car, I'd personally probably go with the 00 but without seeing them it's hard to tell.

You might also want to check on getauto.com because the prices of 996's vary considerably with the market they are sold in to. CA, CT and NJ look most expensive places to buy cars. Looks like a good arbitrage opp for the fast of foot.

I would suggest to go with 01C4 with GT3 Kit and Rims, consider the AeroKit Cup + Rims cost you by Tequipment >$7k w/o install!

And 01 had only 6000km and that's very unused car, if that Tacho is real of course!?!

and don't mind the ground clearance, it's a sportscar, it should look like it and sound like it :D

C4, what I've heard runs by normal condition 95% back and 5% front and by extrem condition the PSM will devide/share the power for optimum performance and security.

and of course the trunk is a bit smaller because of the AWD.

if I had the $$$ to spend I would prefere the C4 than the C2, but it doesn't sound that you have any problem with spending!

cheers,

Tony
