My 2006 997 (C2S Manual) has 2400 miles on it. During the few times I drove around the 5000 rpm, I noticed an IMMEDIATE burning smell from the engine compartment. The smell goes away when the rpm is reduced. There is no smell when driving around 3000 or 4000 rpm. So the smell is not because the engine is very hot. Thoughts? Thx.

I never experienced this condition in my 997 S.

Rather than have amateurs second guess possible causes

on a web site , my car would have been at the dealer

Agreed. Your clutch could be slipping. It could be an internal engine issue. It does not sound good. Get to thy dealer post haste!

First let me say I'm no auto mechanic but I do have a sensitive nose. Other sources of a burning smell include your brakes and exhaust system. I've gotten a burning smell off of both during the breakin of the two Carreras I've owned. However, if you think it's coming from the clutch or engine I wouldn't be bashful about bringing it in. Better safe than sorry.

.. also remember that you are not hitting varicam until the higher rev range - so may be related to that ?
