Anyone tried Pentosin Pentosynth 5W-40?

No, Mobil 1 is what PCNA recommends... I'm sticking with it!

If Pentosynth is anywhere _near_ as expensive as their hydraulic fluids, it can't be worth it... <g>

Please, don't be naive. Porsche likely recommends the Mobil because they gain some financial benefit from doing so. The Pentosin fully synthetic is on their approved list, as well as VW's, BMW's MB's and others. The price is comparable to Mobil in my area and more readily available than the M1 0-40.

I ran M1 0-40 on two to three times the maintenance schedule changes and still had two engines fail in 25,000 miles.

No more M1 0w40. A 25-year Porsche tech suggested Pentosin 5w40 and ever since I switched no more occasional smoke on startup and runs great.
