Question for fellow members with experience with installation of the 986 PSE system.

I bought a used 2000 Porsche 986 2.7 Tiptronic with PSE. I noticed a lever on each side of the exhaust system which can be pulled to the up position. The lever automatically recoils into the down position when left alone. I bought the car used and the PSE was not properly installed with any interior switch or electronics. I noticed that the muffler is slightly louder when the lever is left in the down position and quieter when it is pushed to the up position. Is there any way to unleash the sound of this PSE system without installing any wires/electronic switches? I'd like to have the existing PSE in the loud all the time mode. I have now left the levers in the down position hoping for a louder sound.

Many thanks in advance.

In the relaxed position a portion of the exhaust bypasses the muffler internal baffleing and makes for a louder, and more aggressive sounding exhaust note. If you intoduce vacuum to the the diaphrams, internal gates close off the "short cut" and full circulation thru the baffleing occurs making for a stock type quieter sound. You can also wire these closed for a quieter sound if desired in the future. So... as left as is without hooking up anything, they are loud. Hope this helps.

Thanks nick for the valuable info. I have left the lever in the uncoiled down position for the throatier sound. The muffler still sounds timid. Perhaps the PSE is not supposed to be as aggressive as the GHL system. I will keep this muffler nonetheless because of its cool looks.
