Friends:

I have a 1998 Boxster convertible that has gone from bad to worse.

It started with the switch by the latch failing since I had no response when unlatching the top and pressing the switch on the dash. I replaced it and everything seemed to work well for a couple of months.

Next, I was driving down the road and hit a slight bump. Both windows went down about half way and would not close. I played with the parking brake and after several hours got the windows to close.

Now, I unlatch the top. Hit the switch on the dash and the motor makes noise as if it were working but nothing happens.

I have checked and by disconnecting both cables I have verified that the motor is working on both sides. I disconnected the drive cables by removing the clips and had someone push the dash switch while I held a small screw driver in the socket that holds the cable. Got plenty of torque on both sides. Ouch!

Then, I tried to to pull each cable (on inside) to see if they were broken but they seem to be complete. Using the same needlenose pliers I tried turning them and felt enough resistance.

Meanwhile the idiot light for the top is on on the dash.

Is there a relay that activates the transmission? I am out of ideas. Did anyone ever complete he video?

The only thing I can think of is that the transmissions have failed but doubt it because I can't see them both failing at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
