Rear Window Heater Switch

Recommended Posts

My 2003 996 Targa has a read Window Defrost switch but no elements on the window. I'd like to use the switch for something else (i.e. Garage Door Opener?). Is there somewhere that I can tap into this circuit easily? Relay in the fuse panel perhaps? Connector near the rear window somewhere? Any suggestions?

If the Targa is like the Cab in this respect, then that switch also turns on the side mirror heat.

Thanks again. You're a wealth of info. From your diagram, I am only concerned with #1 prying the panel off carefully with a blunt instrument, correct? No hidden fastners to break???

The horseshoe panel prys off very easily without any hidden fasteners to worry about. Just take a butter knife and gently/gingerly prey around the panel slowly but firmly pulling outwards. I usually start at the bottom on one side and work my way around the top and over to the bottom of the other side.

In my opinion, the hardest part is actually removing the little switches, but they too ultimately just pop out.

Remember, always be gentle but don't worry too much about breaking it. Good luck.
