I considering upgrading the head unit (Cdr 24) in my 2006 Boxster. I have noticed that some of the radio features are integrated into the instrumentation cluster (ie. song name, radio station). I am willing to live without these but am concerned about losing some of the other feature on the digital cluster area like all the MPH and fuel info. Does anyone know if I would lose any of those function by merely replacing the head unit? Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Yes, you would lose it all. The radio communicates on a fiber optic network (called MOST). The amp does the same (if you have that option). Few if any 3rd party systems operate on fiber optics and I doubt they could "talk" to the Porsche controllers anyway.

The only other option is to remove the Porsche systems and wire the car for a 3rd party radio/sound system.

Thanks for your reply! Do you know of any way to get an ipod solution or sirius system to work with the CDR 24 system through the cd port? I tried the FM modulation but it sounds awful!!

Do a search here as this has been covered many times. The same solution(s) apply to CDR-23 and CDR-24 as they are both fiber optics based systems.
