When I bought my S, I opted on an 18 inch wheels that was on another used car on the lot, it originally have 17 which is the OEM.. I drove the car today longer than normal, i dont like the humming sound on the 18's , is this tire wear? or should I go back to the 17's... what are the recommended tires on the 18's..? I dont have this noise when I test drove the car with teh 17's..reminds me of same sound on my cayenne S after, lowering and changing to 20's.. right now it has 265/35 18's S-02's. thanks for your help...

Typical tire noise is more a factor of the tread design than anything else. Try using a different tire design. Also, if the tires are worn, they can be more noisy than a new set. The wheel size can have some effect on this also, but you should be able to find a quieter tire that works for you.

Tire noise is generally related to the tread pattern of a tire but as diameter increases ride quality diminishes in proportion. Large diameter low profile tires must be made stiffer and have less of a cushioning effect between the road an wheel. Road shock can be pretty sevier especially if the roads are less than glass smooth with some tires.

thanks guys,,.

Didi some test drive and checked out uneven wears on the front tires, dont rear looks good,

problem is are the S-02's still being sold? or do i have to buy 4 tires, i dont like unmatched tires,:D

The Bridgestone S02's don't have the best noise rating. Not the worst either. I've heard some tires change noise characteristics as they age. With the low tread wear rating these have, it won't be long before you'll have the opportunity to try a quieter tire. For an OE, the Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs are pretty quiet. I only got 12K out of the rears but the fronts are fine.

May I suggest you check tire press. If only a little low the tire tends to ride more on the shoulder which is transversely ribbed in most cases and it is this that can cause a hum or whine.

Cheers.
