Hi,

Just to share my experience with those tire cradles (the original ones)

--they worked perfectly on my boxster s...After a 6 month sleep in my garage with all tires set at 45 psi all winter long.....No flat spot at all during my first road test...Not even a bit of whell shimmy...Nothing.....

1) What type of tires do you have?

2) How much are the cradles?

3) Why didn't you over-inflate the tires to 58 psi like the owner's manual requires for long-term storage?

This is not a Porsche approved method of long-term storage due to the issues with the suspension being "unloaded" and therfore exposing certain parts of the suspension to the "elements".

FWIW- I bought 4 tire dollies from a local auto parts place for $90 Canadian. They have steel wheels and were designed for moving semitrailer tires around. The curvature of the dollies matched my tires pretty good. My Boxster sat on them all winter long and no flatspotting whatsoever. The great part (the reason I bought them) was that I could roll the whole car around the garage and fit all three vehicles in our two car garage!

Has anyone ever actually experienced flat spotting on their Boxster? I've stored my Boxster for three winters now, and every year I pump up the tires to 45 psi, and every year, I never have flat spotting problems.

I've always thought these tire cradles were a gyp, since I've never actually heard from anybody who had flat spotting before and now doesn't because of the cradles. I suppose if you let your Boxster sit on race slicks for 6 months at low pressure you might get flat spots, but I've never heard of anyone getting flat spots on street tires.

Oh, it can (and does) occur. But, there are numerous variables, some of which you've mentioned. Pressure and load, of course, but the tires themselves are big factors. Ambient temp and more importantly, temp of the tires when first stored. I get noticeable, but not objectionable, flat spotting over night after driving my highway commute and parking in the garage. Dissipates within a few miles in the morning. I run Bridgestone Potenza S-03.

I expressed myself poorly - My PZEROs would flat spot every night whether the overnight low was 40 degrees or 100 degrees - they ALWAYS flat spotted. I switched to YOKO AVS ES100 and prefer this tire to the PZERO in every way.

Hi, it's fun to see diverse opinion...I have the regular stock tires 18 inch continental, the tire cradle are about $400.00 , I use 45psi because 50 are more is a bit too close to max limit and I monitor it once a month ...I even was close to buy those dolies..But I said No...nothing but the best for the Porsche ..there is no substitute...

ps: I use mainly my car during the weekend , i dont normally put it on the cradle during the summer, and I can feel after a 3 days sitting in the garage the car is a bit shaky for the first mile....( styrofoam board, carpet, cardboard, rubbermat, i tried all that ...it does'nt work...
