Hi all…I nave been lurking here for while and it seems a great site!(and always recommended)

Can I pick your brains???

I was out for a major thrash yesterday (racing a motorbike and losing like normal-those things are FAST) and when I got home I noticed that after 20 mins or so there was 5 or 6 drips of oilo n the floor-but it stopped after 15 mins or so. I have the following pics so wondered if you could help and give me an idea of what is leaking? Its on the right hand side if your looking at the rear of the car.

Is this kind of thing covered by the Porsche warranty?

Many Thanks for any help!

Most likely spark plug tube(s) or cam cover, since they are common sources for oil leaks.

Thanks for that.. I had the O/S cam cover mended last Nov at the dealer so perhaps they did a bad job...I will take it back.

If they replaced/resealed the camcover and didn't check the oil tubes shame on them. There are new o-rings for the early MY99 Carrera's that have almost eliminated all oil tube leaks.

Loren, I'll be changing my spark plugs tomorrow. How can I verify the above (o-rings, oil tubes etc) to see if they are fine? I've a MY99 carrera so I thought I might as well inspect if its in the vicinity.

Thanks !

Sid

If there is no oil leaking on to the spark plugs or on the ground - then you are likely fine.

TSB 1/98 1546 New O-Ring on Oil Protection Pipe -- dated 5-14-98 states that any cars built after November 24, 1997 should already have the newer o-rings. That would include all US cars.
