I have an 04 996 with the x51 package it feels a lot slower than my 02 m3 or My 03 evo . I wont even compear it to my 02 Z06. A few years back i had a 993tt and it was a rocket. The 996 has a better hp-weight ratio than the m3 it should be quicker.. Has anybody tested the x51 vs the reg 320hp? This my first water cooled porsche. thanks

How many miles do you have on your 04? These things loosen up after about 5k, and mine, now @ 8k feels looser than before, and more willing to sprint around to the redline. I've been told they really free up after 10K when people claim to have noticed measurable improvements in performance

You might also be "misreading" your car's performance: It has so much torque that it can feel as if nothing is happening, whereas the M3 is lacking on comparison, making more noise to get there.

Well there ain't much in it. I would say that m3 has slightly more power but the carerra has way better handling.

But the m3 is fuggly as hell. What would you rather be driving. A porsche or an m3 ;)

i have 400 miles on the 996

@ 400 miles you would have no idea. I'm assuming that you're running it in for the first 2000 miles and keeping it below 4000 rpm?
