PCM Code

Hi,

Battery on my 2000 996 went dead and it put PCM in a lock-out mode. Took the car to a local Porsche dealer and they retrieved the codes (PCM and NAV). However, the car is not accepting the PCM code. Everything worked fine until the battery died, but now the dealer is telling me that only option is to replace PCM. The dealer thinks the PCM was replaced under warranty. Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the code or what options I have besides spending $3500? Thank you

Your dealer should be able to get the code by calling into Porsche with your PCM serial number.

Hi Loren,

Thank you for the quick reply. The code that is not working is the one that the dealer supposedly got from Porsche off the PCM serial number. When that code doesn't work does it really mean that the PCM is broken? I am wondering if PCM is actually OK and someone made data entry error in the Porsche PCM code database. Does anyone know if PCM code can be hard reset by Porsche if I send the unit back to Germany?

Hi Jon I had the same problem had to take it to porsche dealer they took out the pcm and got the serial number of the side,they then phoned beker and they got the code from the serial number hope you get it sorted soon real pain in the a-se

The Becker dealer thinks the PCM might be a Bosche or Siemens product. I am back at my local Porsche dealer talking to the service manager. I also called Porsche NA and they want me to call them back if my local dealer is unable to resolve the problem. Thanks for your help.

If the code is based on their records as to what is in the car - then that could be wrong.

Some other dealer may have changed it out and not recorded the new serial number. You likely need to remove the PCM and verify the serial number.

Do a search here - removing the PCM has been covered several times.

Yes I think the unit has been replaced under warranty so its not the one it came when the car was new.

I did remove the pcm and gave the dealer the serial # off of the radio. There are two serial numbers. One from Becker and one from Siemens.

The dealer could not get a code from the siemens s/n but they gave me a code from the becker which is not working. I also called becker and they gave me the same code as the dealer.

The unit is asking for a pcm code so im thinking it needs the code from siemens but I don't know where to get it. The dealer says there are two many digits.

Siemens serial # is P08040064648/03

Becker serial # is Y5007409 and both becker and dealer gave me code 3209

2001 911 turbo pcm model 2582

Sorry for the long story. If you know a way to resolve this please let me know.

Thanks for the information in here. This means my flat-battery-induced SATNAV failure may be on the way to being fixed.

I have to say the dealer in Guildford has been spectacularly unhelpful which was getting to the stage to not recommend the marque. I think I have a different-from-new SATNAV but the dealer didn't appear to grasp what I wanted after three trips and numberous phone calls.

I will find a dealer local to London to follow through the simple proceedures above.

From the Lost Radio Code FAQ...

"Can you give me a code for my PCM?
These units are manufactured jointly by Siemens and Becker, and the only place where you can get the codes required is from the dealer/OPC. The PCM’s require two codes, the ICS/Siemens code, and a Becker code. The ICS is the first code requested.
Sorry, the only place you can get a PCM code is from a dealer/OPC."
