Turn signal not working

Recommended Posts

I feel kind of silly asking, but I'm stumped!....

2001 996 TT, 32K miles...

Left front turn signal light not working. Rear OK and right side ok. When you hit the turn signal lever to the left, the green indicator light blinks superfast comparted to the properly working right side.

Went to the dealer and picked up a new bulb thinking the bulb must just be out. Changed the bulb (old buld looked fine- no obvious burn out) with a new one and still not working!

Checked a few fuses but everything looks ok.

Am I missing something? Is there a relay or something else that could be causing the symtoms?

Thanks Guys

Sameer

Remove the bulb and use a meter to check for voltage on the hot lead, also on the ohm setting check for a good ground on the negative lead or terminal. You could also switch bulbs to verify the bulbs are both good. If you don't have a meter, try Sears, Lowes, Home Depot or auto parts supplier. It will cost $20-$40 for a good low end unit and will pay for itself many times over.

I've got a volt meter- how do I know which wire is which?

Thanks

I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the bulb holder due to the bulb making poor contact.

Figured it out. The contact point inside the bulb housing had a little carbon deposit on it. Cleaned it off and it works just fine :jump:

Special thanks to Nick49, RobCBR, Loren and the entire Renntech community :clapping:
