Clutch replacement

Last year I purchased a 99 2.5L it had covered 34000 miles, it now has 38000miles on the clock. The clutch has now started to give off a squealing sound :o when moving off quickly from being stationary.

Would I be correct in thinking it's time to replace the clutch

38K that sounds early for a clutch to wear off.

The dealer had a chance to check my clutch 3 time now (everytime they change the RMS...). The last time was 2 weeks ago and they did not say that the car needed a new clutch, and mine is 50K old...

I guess it depends how much the previous owner slipped to clutch. The clutch repalcement kit is not that expensive, the problem is that it takes a lot of time to do the job. You need to remove the muffler.... So I do not know if you can do it yourself without having a lift at home.

A worn clutch does not usually make a noise, unless it is the release or pilot bearings. I was told that a defective 2 mass flywheel does not make such a noise. I have driven a car that went to the rivets on the friction disc. The clutch slipped but did not make noise. Maybe it is different on a Boxster.

If the friction material is gone, like on this picture, then you will make a lot of noise. This car was towed in.

Thanks for the information. It doesn't appear to slip nor has it made the noise on the last two outings so perhaps it is the release bearing. I will wait and see not going to panic yet
