I had it done when I first bought my 2000 996 C4 cabriolet. Over the next couple of years, the convertible top creaks and groans have come back in a big way.

Well, when I had my car in the shop to replace a rear window regulator and add hydraulic fluid for my convertible top motor, I had them lube the seals in the top again.

Man oh man, what a HUGE difference this makes. My car is virtually noise free (other than the sweet engine note). Because my car makes no other rattles or noises otherwises, getting the top to be noise free is great. It just feels so solid.

I would recommend this to anybody with a cabrio. I think I saw a DIY on here about it. Trust me, it's worth it.

I had my Boxster S done when still under warranty. I thought they would have just humoured me and said it was a 'characteristic'. The difference was outstanding! Unfortunately I don't know where they lubed or what with. Possibly WD40 or some special Porsche equivalent.

The official Porsche product for lubing the top mechanism is Krytox grease by Dupont. You can find it here:Krytox

A small tube (smaller than regular sized toothpaste) is about $20.00

Works great.

Hi, What is 'tsbs', and where can i find the information you speak of regarding the Cab rattles?

There is SO much useful stuff in there...

.... The top lube instructions are dated 9-15-00 "Noises in the convertible top" right ?

Also i saw a TSB about creaking in the steering... i think i have just this issue.

They said there are new bearings to fix this ? Is this just an annoying noise issue or will it suddenly break on me ??
