Hi all,

My first post, and one that will get me a do a search reply. I've searched but no joy yet, so i figured its worth a shot asking.

I've just relocated to Switzerland. My new house is way out in the country at the end of a long curvy mountain road. I think a C4 might be just the ticket but have some reservations about cost and the simple fact that I know almost nothing. Tried to buy a 996 buyers guide on the web but all my cards didn't work. So long introduction out of the way, any advice on the following?

--- can a c4 be driven hard up mountain roads on a regular basis?

--- what do you think about a 00 C4 with 95K KM, its going for 55K CHF or about 42k usd?

--- I gather i should ask about the RMS, anything else I should be on the look out for

--- finnaly, do you know a good buyers guide/other resource to 996s that isn't the 911secrets (it won't take my ccards)

Thanks!

I have a 2000 C4 and it will definetly perform up to task on curvy roads. If you slip the back end the front wheels will pull you right out of any trouble. I did have an issue with my engine. After only having the car three months, bought it with 36k miles on it, the engine went out and had to be replaced. I have heard of this happening to several 99, and 00's on this site.

I would reccomend that you pay the extra, or wait a year and get a 2001 with the 3.6l engine. Porshce paid for half of my engine replacement even though it was out of warrenty. Never got any reason as to why the engine went out. Everything was fine and it was not ragged by me. Other than that I would reccomend the car, but don't have much confidence in the 3.4l engine. From the way porsche acted to cover the engine problem I don't believe they do either.

I paid 43k USD for mine six months ago. Mine is a Cab, with PSM and Fikse wheels on it. Supple leather package. I have added PSE and Xenon lights.

Good luck. You will love the car, but I would have more confidence in mine if it had the 3.6l in it.
