If adding air to your tires is a 1, and overhauling the transmission is a 10, I would say installing the shifter would be a 1.05...sound about right?

did you actually install it? if that is the case, i suggest the OP put air in your tires twice for you so you can do his schnell shifter install.

personally, i found it rather difficult taking a couple trips to kragen for tools. cutting the plastic white clips that held the stock shifter in was a PITA. it requred patience, googles and cutters which sent plastic pieces flying all over the place.

here's a hint, for the ring spanning tool (whatever it is called, 2 gold rings that come with the schnell short shifter) don't use the cheap phillips-screw-on-tips, get the more expensive tool that replaces the arms.

previously, i had trouble getting the car in reverse. the schnell did fix that problem. having the short shifter makes the travel between gears shorter, however it requires more effort and makes shifting slower... i find that shifts grind at high rpms, but maybe that's because the hex screw is not in the right setting.

If your car is not shifting right before a short shifter install then it won't shift right afterwards. The B&M (or others) won't fix that.

If you have any difficulty shifting it is best to align the cables (get the cheap plastic tool from Porsche) and test the shifting before replacing the shifter mechanism.

On a scale of 1 to 10, does anyone know the difficulty of installation on a 2001 Boxster?

I install mine few months ago, I found that the most time consuming part is to take out the two orignal plastic blinding, you have to use the cutter to cut off the connectors. Other than that is is preety straight forward. I think anyone can do it as long as you follow the instruction, it just time consumming, no special tools and skill set are required for this assignment.
