Hi all,

first time post :D

I have a '99 996 C2 Cab, with the basic stereo installed. It as two speakers in the dash, two speakers in the rear passenger quarter panels, and no door speaker. I'm looking at upgrading the stereo system and the first thing i'd like to do is add speakers in the door.

I've taken the door panel off, and noticed that it looks like the door is already pre-wired to plug into the stock door speakers. I can't seem to figure out where the wiring goes to.

Does anyone know where the speaker wiring is routed to? Is it routed to the head unit location, or into the bonnet?

Look at your option code. the standard radio is a M441. In this configuration both sets of speakers have wiring going directly to the radio/head unit (according to the wiring diagrams I have). If you have the HiFi option (M490) or the Digital Sound (M680) the three sets of speakers, dash, doors and rears, go to an amplifier located in the bonnet. Outputs from the radio go to the amp. I suppose it is possible that the wiring harness' could be the same for M441 and M490, and then be jumpered to the radio, but usaully the harness are specific to the option ordered. The amp is located on the passenger side of the bonnet under a plastic cover, you could look there and see if wires run to both the speakers and the radio.

hey thanks for the quick reply!

I just looked under the hood, and the option codes that i have are: C36 236 413 438 750

Since i didn't have any door speakers to begin with, i most likely have the standard radio option M441 as you described. I find it interesting that Porsche pre-wired the door location, now all i need to do is find out where it goes to

I guess the other option would be to run a new set of speaker wires to the door speakers...
