Seat belt light affects air bag operation?

Recommended Posts

Hi Loren and all:

Long time no talk. My P hobby was in hibernation mode for a while.

I recently upgrade the seats of my 996 Cab. When we took the driver seat out, we found that the wires had been tinkered with by the previous owner. Several wires where snipped and then put back together. My friend figured most of it out and swapped the seats succesfully.

Here is the question...

The seat belt light on both sides are now not working. It's kind of nice not having the ding ding anymore. But my concern is whether it would affect airbag operation. For example, does the seat belt lights not coming on mean that the air bag controller might think that there are no one sitting there and therefore the air bag might not deploy? or something stupid like that?

BTW, the air bag light itself is fine (not on).

Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Paul

Paul,

It is hard to say without more info. Does the airbag light and seat belt light come on with the ignition in the "on" position? He could have even removed the seat belt warning light too.

If you want I can hook up my PST2 and see if their are any airbag or seat belt faults. Drop me a PM if you wan to do that.
