limp mode?

hello, coming home from a recent fun run with other porsches, my 99 C4 tiptronc did not want to accelerate beyond 2000rpm and made poping noises when i stepped on the gas. i parked and waited for 5 mins and tried to restart. it did not. after 10mins i tried again and the car ran fine. i drove it moderately hard on the winding roads during the run. did my car go into limp mode? no check engine lit up during run, what gives? any ideas?

You may want to take it someplace where you can read the codes, and faults. At first it sounded like some bad gas, but if it ran fine afterwards, something else is not right. A dealer will read all store codes and troubleshoot if you don't have the OBDII readers. Or a place like Autozone have readers you can use in their parking lot.
