The driver's side seat heater on my 1999 Boxster stopped working. The switch light remains lit only as long as the switch is depressed and the seat does not heat. I took to my local Porsche dealer and they stated that the heating element was tested as shorted / bad. Repair to cost $500 to replace element. I'd like to fix myself for less $$. Any ideas for part locations and DIY repair procedures?

Thanks in advance guys!

there are a couple of threads that discuss the heated seats. The following is the best one I found which includes the part numbers to add heated seats to a boxster or 996. you can review these to get the part numbers you need.

As I understand it there are two heating elements, one on the seat cushion and one on the seat back. From Porsche these come built into the foam cushion. The part numbers for the seat cushion and seat back are as follows.

996.521.521.01 Foam Part Seat Cushion with Heating

996.521.531.01 Foam part Backrest Cushion with Heating

The one on the seat cushion is supposed to be easier to replace while the seat back will require some Hog Ring pliers. Some have taken these to an upolster to replace.

I'm looking to add heated seats to a 996 and another good source of info is at the following website.

If you decide to do this yourself which appears to be relatively easy make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the seat or you will trigger an air bag light. Good Luck
