hi everybody

im a noobie here..and this is my first posting :help: .... i have been reading up a little but havent found anything to help me in my quest to buy a cd changer for my 99 996C2 with pcm 1. i have found a silverstone 2630 10 cd changer thats for sale but am not sure if it will work, can anyone help? i know some people will say dont bother with a cd changer and that a ipod is the better way to go, i agree, but im a bit dumb when it comes to electrickery. i do have a ipod mini and have been looking at that ice-link thingy but its sounds to me from what i have read on this board that no-one has really managed to hook it up properly yet. ie. where to install the ipod, music lists, and all the other uncertaincies with the ice-link system, and i ask myself will it actually work like i want it to at the end of the day?

is it a big deal installing a cd-changer on a car that never came with one from the factory? i will have no probs from the mechanical side of it. (im not quite as dumb on that front) as far as i can make out i just have to hook up the corrct cable to the connection that is on the back of the pcm and mount the changer under the hood in the space provided on the right hand side next to the amp. how do i get the cable from the pcm to the changer under the hood? anything i have to watch for?

thanks for a great board :clapping: and thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some good advice.

cheers

kelvin

Porsche uses a 6 disc changer. It is a Becker Silverstone 2660 but Porsche calls it a CDC-3.

The 10 disc 2630 Becker unit will work. The only problem is that it is bigger than the 6 disc 2660. Since it is bigger it will not fit on the factory mounting bracket next to the amp.

thanks for the reply ...i would have no problem with the mounting as i would build a bracket or whatever it needs myself. is the space provided big enough?

You can put the 10 disc changer next to the amp if you cut the carpet. Or if you turn it about 90 degrees then you don't have to cut the carpet.

Or you can mount it below the trunk latch. This is the most common location.

The changer comes with a universal mounting bracket.

The 10 disc changer is about 50% larger than the 6 disc changer. It is not only wider, but taller.

thanks alot, i just been and bought the changer (ebay), cost me 179 euros (about $215) maybe expensive but im happy about it. im still thinking about the ipod, i might go for that someday, but im just happy to be able to play my cd´s at last..well soon anyhow :D ..i bought the 996 c2 coupe tipronic only 2 months ago. its my first porsche and i am really happy about it, somthing i have been thinking and dreaming about for many years. i bought it privatly without a garantie with 78k km (am i mad?) with full service history. its still on its first engine and it doesent leak a drop of oil. there are a few squeeks im going to track down and destroy and a strange noise that periodically comes from behind the dash somehere, but only in idle and not always ..it sound like a pump which has got noisy, (water pump, heating?) but when i rev the engine or drive off it disapears. any ideas? another thing that im going to have to sort out is the flashing temp light (slow flash), it comes on when i drive a bit more "energetically" as normal, ive seen 280kmh on the clock a couple of times when there is enough room on the autobahn and it comes on after i slow down, or after a fast blast over the country roads, but never in town driving! i have read here that it is the coolant level or the engine comp fan. the coolant level is fine so i guess i will have to check that the fan is working. its cold over here in north germany right now so it does supprise me a bit, especially that it never happens in town (hamburg) when the engine should get its hottest  but im waffeling off topic now so ill shut up or open a new thread
