Dealer wants to reuse Oil

The technician at my OPC said when he replaces my Oil Relief Valve on my 987 Boxster with 1800 miles he will re-use the oil.

Is this a good idea? Surely there will be contaminents at the base of the engine and more will be picked up when the oil gets stored suring the job?

Any advice would be great!

I have not seen the bulletin on the 2100 rpm rattle issue yet.

My local dealer does not reuse oil.

If the warranty repair will not cover new oil then all I can suggest is that you pay for it or bring your own.

I think the bulletin just came out last week. Would the oil get full of junk - car has done 1800 miles!

I think that a phone call to Porsche of North America would be in order, to clarify that this is an acceptable procedure. You never know maybe the dealer puts your oil back in and claims the new oil for themselves as a warranty expense. Nice way to put a quick fifty bucks in there pocket.

I guess having said that, I think I would want new oil put in even if I had to pay for it myself. :rolleyes:

Update: Spoke to dealer today who said they will replace the oil unde warranty!!! Wish they would make their mind up!

I'm in Scotland BTW! :D
