Can anyone help with a dash problem I have a 1985 944 and the dash instruments have stoped working. I was driving along when all the dash instruments (speedo,tacho,oil press, volt met,fuel gauge etc)all stopped working. I have checked the plugs at the back of the dash and they seem to be ok. The only things that still work are the batt light,dash lights and indicator lights.

Any help would be appreciated

I'm presuming you have verified there is the switched live and permanent live getting to the cluster?

The instruments you have mentioned are all supplied from a 10V voltage regulator within the cluster. It's 10V, so that when your lights, fan, Heated rear window etc. are all switched on, the gauges etc. will not under-read.

If you're up on electronics, remove the cluster and you should see the voltage regulator on a copper heatsink. Get the numbers off it and source a new one. If not, you'll need a new cluster.

Thanks for your fast reply How do I remove the cluster? and have you any idea where I can get a new voltage regulator ? I see you are in Newcastle ! The car is in Coventry (I live in Northern Ireland)

Hi Guys

Problem with instrument cluster solved . I replaced relay G2 and hey presto all the instruments and dash lights are now working :0)

huh....as it iturns out, my instrument cluster is all dead as well. I was working on the AC/climate control unit

and everything went blank on the instrument cluster. <_< but I can still startup the car.

Where is the this G2 Relay located?

Also, is it safe to drive the car? (to a stealership in case that's what needed?)
