I am getting a bit concerned about the oil pressure that is showing on my 97 996 C2. While crusing at 3000 revs in sixth I get about 4.8 bar (down over the last year or so from 5.0 historically). After a long run, and while stationary at idle revs this can drop as low as 1.0-1.1 bar. Historically my idle has been 2.0 and it is still around 1.7-1.9 at idle on a short run.

Have I an engine problem, an indication problem, both or neither?

Similar situation here too Paul (99 C2 996 cpe, tiptronic). . I just did my 60K service and went on a 1300 mile trip. Car runs flawless, always maintained. I notice I run around 1.5 bar at idle (in drive) until the car gets really warm (185+ degrees), then it drops into the 1.0-1.2 range. Never burn any oil between changes at 10Kmiles. Off idle, it matches the pressures listed in another recent post for a 2004 C4. Never asked the dealer since the car runs great. Before the warranty runs out I will probably ask tho.

I do commute a couple days per week in this car. Stoplight traffic and some bumper to bumper on the freeway but it's mostly moving above 25 mph. Being rather large, I was happy to feel like I could go another 1300 miles after last week's trip. As good if not more comfortable than my 'toyo highlander! Cross country definitely possible.

Thanks, always nice to know that someone else is in the same boat. I'm thinking of taking it in to see if the pressure sender is accurate. If I find anything out I'll let you know.

Hi

I have a 2000 cab with the same problem, oil light comes on at idle when warm and oil pressure is under 1 bar at idle.

I changed oil (15-50 Mobile 1) no change

How did you solve your problem

Thanks

John
