Swapping seats for track/autocross days

I am toying with the idea of getting a Porsche OEM GT3 cup seat for autocross and track days, and keeping my regular "comfort" seat for daily driving.

How long does it take to swap driver's seats, assuming the cup seat has the seat belt receptacle installed to it, so I don't have to change that every time I change seats? What other issues or problems should I account for?

I just replaced my full power seats with the GT3 seats.... Including the R & R of the seat belt reciever and re-connecting the sealt belt electrical connections it shouldn't take more than 15 - 30 minutes per seat. It's really not that difficult.

One item to note.... The airbag light came on when the seats were installed even though I had the negative battery cable removed and the keys out of the ignition.... :cursing: I had to have the code cleared at my local shop....

I take it that the airbag light could be an ongoing issue each time I change the seat. :(

How do you find the GT3 seat? Some people have said it isn't comfortable at all. My back isn't the best, but I would like to think (maybe wishful thinking on my part) that with the added lateral support the seat might be OK for me.

Airbag light should not be an issue. With the GT3 seats you will have no access to the rear seats. As for comfort they are not bad. Getting in and out is can be a pain, but once your in they feel great. Now I don't use my car as a daily driver. You might have a selt belt issue. If you run the lap belt through the side opening of the GT3 seat then you will have extra work each time you swap seats.

I don't know why the airbag light came on.... I did everting the way it has been done previously by others.... I believe Bill is correct that the airbag light should not be an issue.....

I have a bad back also but the seats are, IMHO, comfortable. As Bill said, they are a little difficult to get into, but after getting used to them, I have found it not be be such a big deal.......

Even with that 3 point stock belt run through the 1 shoulder opening in the GT3 seat, the swap time should be minimal (1 additional bolt).

I had the passenger seat out last night when I was trying to figure out which BK fire extinguisher bracket I should buy...... :help: The R & R took less than 10 minutes in and out.....

BTW what Brey Krause fire extinguisher bracket are you thinking of getting?

Pics are up now...... They were too large and did not attach... :oops:

I need to do more research on what bracket to buy..... I can say with absolute certainty that the BK R2020 does not work with these GT3 seats.... there is nothing for the bracket to attached to....

I am now looking at other places (i.e. the roll bar) to attached the FE to....

Hi, that is a great idea! After removing my seats with a 10mm socket and a T20 driver, in 5 minutes, I would have to say you would effectively add atleast 10hp, as these together weigh about as much as an average passenger!?! Good Luck with the AB light. My car pretty much looks ready to go to the track at the moment the only thing in there is the front carpet and the dash. Doing a little sound proofing. :D

OK. I don't see the pics. Where should I be looking? I checked to see if you have them posted in yoiur "garage" but there is no listing under "SMR996". :huh:
