CDR 220 not detecting CD Changer 2660

:cursing: Hi and greetings from Australia,

I recently bought a Becker Silverstone 2660 off ebay to hook up to my '00 Boxster. The wires were already in the trunk so I thought it'd be an easy hook up.

I wired the CD Changer up but can't seem to select that as the source on the CDR 220 head unit. I hit 'S' and it switches to CD, I hit 'S' again, it goes to FM1, I hit 'S' yet again and it goes back to CD!! I am able to eject the magazine from the changer so I know its getting some power. Though, ejecting magazines has provided much thrill, I wouldn't mind being able to select the changer and play a CD with it!

So... these are the things I've tried (but didn't work):

1. Search the internet for all guides (found 2) and followed them all step by step (though I had to install on the right side of the trunk since its RHD here)

2. Posted for help on the Becker board. They told me to reset the head unit.

3. Resetted the head unit by disconnecting the power for 30 secs and then plugging it back in whilst the CD changer is connected.

4. Tried turning Aux on.

It seems like some other people have had this problem in the past (found about 2 threads like this but didn't lead to a solution). I'm also curious if the ground wire actually needs to be wired up or whether its used to reduce noise. I've wired it up to the - terminal but the changer still wouldn't work. I've done a fair few systems in Jap cars so I'm not a complete n00b to all this.

If anyone could help me out here, it would be much appreciated. Also, I found a program on the net that is able to give me the security code to Becker head units. It worked for mine but can't guarantee it'll work for yours. Give me the last 4 digits of the serial number if you want me to try.

Make sure aux is turned off. The changer does not need a separate ground wire. The round plug you connected to the changer has a ground, or you would not be getting power to the changer.

Find someone with a 2660 or Porsche CDC-3 and swap changers to rule out a bad changer. Also swap magazines. Boxster guy thought he had a bad head unit or magazine because 2 changers would not work. He got the 2nd changer from ebay as well.

Thanks for the quick reply Tool Pants. I've thought to try another changer too but didn't know anyone with one so I took the car into the dealer to see what they could do. Unfortunately, that dealer did not have a spare changer and was unable to tell me if my changer was defective. I'll try another dealer but in the meantime, I've read in some forums that the dealer needs to 'activate' the changer. Is this only for fibre optic MOST systems trying to retrofit certain changers?

No, that is for CDC-4 and MY03 and newer cars.

If you are in sf bayarea, I have a spare CDC-3 you can test. Opps, I just found out you are at Australia, never mind.

When I bought my Silverstone the shop said some years of manufacture were not compatible with the unit and they had to refund a few. I was lucky, it worked with my 02.
