12V sockets turn automatically off?

In the 987 there are the two 12V sockets in the footwell and below the armrest. They both remain active even if the ignition key is withdrawn. The manual says on page 124:

'... If the engine is not running and the accesories are switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged...'

But there is the 'Load switch off after 2 hours or 7 days' on page 226:

'... If the ignition key is removed, loads which are switched on or are in standby mode (such as the luggage compartment light, interior light and radio) are automatically switched off after apprx. 2hours....'

Question: is this also true for the 12V sockets? Are they turned off after the 2 hours?

On my '05, none of the 3 (also one inside the center console) shut off at any time. Rather disappointing, actually.

Hi Bob,

I still use one of the 12V sockets for the HK Drive&Play system (iPOD). It's dissapointing that they don't turn off, but the Drive&Play turns off after it's incactive for 1 hour.

So I can live with this now and it's easier than finding a switched 12V (Pin15) in a Boxster. Usually you can take this from the radio, but not with these nice Most based CDR24's :cursing:

There is a telephone connector wire behind the batwing in the center of the dash. It has a pin 2 (green/black) wire that is switched. You can tap into it or order the cable from Becker (as I did) or presumably from Porsche.

The cable also has a ground and an unswitched wire. Don't believe ROW cars have the tp cable.

I don't think that telephone connector exists on 987 and 997 cars...
