I was reading in the service manual that there is an option to turn on a tilt feature for the passenger rear view mirror. It said that only the dealer can turn this on. Has anyone done this themselves or is it not possible?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure this under Memory Seat programming - so if your car has Memory Seats then anyone with a PST2 (or PIWIS) tester can change the coding.

When you program the seat memory buttons, make sure that the car is turned on and that the Gearshift lever is in REVERSE. This will program in the right mirror tilt. (this is in your owners manual, but who reads those things anyway...)

Well, I tried to tilt the mirror while in reverse and reprogram the seat. It didn't work; I guess I will just have to have the dealer turn it on on my next visit.

Did you also program the key memory button as well? That is the Key button on the seat memory panel/

It also could be the backup light switch on the transmission has failed. The tilting mirror is tied to this switch which is located on the front of the transmission. This switch also controls the backup lights. With the key in the ignition, but the engine off, put the car in reverse. Check and see if the backup lights are on. If they are not then I would guess its a failed backup light switch. This is an inexpensive part ($8-10)and very easy to change. There are several postings here that describe the process. this is the best one I found
