Porsche 996 Central Locking

Recommended Posts

I have a Porsche 996 (year 1998), the central locking has stopped working from the remote control. all doors lock when the key is manually used in the drivers door. I have two remote controls and none of them work, batteries have been replaced and the led flashes ok. The control unit under the seat is M534. any common faults I could look for before changing items.

Hi Loren,

I do have this beep once in a while. I cannot identify what triggers it, I always make sure that everything was well closed.

What is the significance of the beep?

Thank You.

The beep says one or more zones is open. Most common causes are center console lid, front trunk microswitch, 3rd party radio installed without disconnecting the built-in radio alarm trigger... but it could be any triggering switch/zone. The fastest way to tell for sure is with a PST2 - it will tell exactly which zone is open.

If you can't find find it easily let me know and I can hook my PST2 up to your car (since you are local).

Thanks for your reply I suspect it is the central console since that is where I store my ipod.

I might take you up on that one day, thanks for the offer !!!

I am doing my 30k service in 2 weeks but I never read the fault memory. I guess everything is OK as long as you don't get a check engine light.
