diagnotic help, please.

on my 97 boxster the climate control fan works intermittently. on a couple of occasions, road vibration was enough to energize the fan when it failed to work initially. today, the ambient temp was 32 and when i started the car, the fan was working fine. other times i've heard the fan motor produce a sound like a bearing about to fail. which is it--failing relay or failing fan motor?

where is the cc fan relay located and how do i bench test it?

The relay is in position 18 on the relay support in the left footwell. It should be part number 141.951.253.B. The relays for the front radiator fans are the same relay (positions 19, 20, 21, 22). Swap with one of the others - realize if it is a bad relay that one stage of your front radiator fans now won't work - so just swap for quick testing purposes.
