Washer fluid

What are the "Porsche approved" washer fluids? My wife's Carrera is out of fluid, so I stopped by Pep Boys to buy some, open the owners manual to see if I need to do anything special, and it actually says to use only Porsche approved washer fluid!

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read. Do I also need to use Porsche approved air to fill the tires?

I use the 99 cents a gallon blue stuff, 69 cents when it is on sale.

Might even try it instead of the Porsche coolant. :rolleyes:

Absolutely! Porsche approved air comes only from selected Swiss mountain resorts and has undergone a number of stringent performance tests.

Seriously, of course any decent screen wash will do. However, when I worked at Mercedes-Benz, we did have some problems with customers using low-quality screen wash and even more so with chemical de-icer that you spray onto your windscreen. Customers used to complain about wipers streaking or making noises, even when recently replaced. Some of that was due to the screen wash. It has to be said, however, that the single-arm Mercedes wipers were particularly prone to streaking. Also, some of the chemical de-icer stuff is quite vicious and can make window seals deteriorate more quickly.

The main problem is that some of the "blue stuff" that people use for washer fluid can and does harm the paint and the finish of your car. Try straight water and if you need the additives then avoid the cheapest fluid and try a better one at half strenght to avoid the risk of damage to the finish on your car.

This is what my dealer uses, from MOC Products

I mixed this with the P21S Windshield Wash Booster (bought locally from Performance Products, only because they were convenient), added lots of water, and it works just fine
