Air Bag Lght on after install TE Roll bar and GT3 seats

Recommended Posts

The install went well.... we only had to "redo" a few things.... I will post pics later that show additional information not shown on some of the write ups....

Anyway, when the work was completed and I started the car the air bag light came on.... Prior to the start of work the negative connector to the battery was disconnected and the keys left out of the inginition. I was also extremeely careful to re-install the seat belt connector in exactlly the same position as it was when it was removed....

However, contrary to the directions/writeups posted on this board and various other boards the actual harness connector (3" x 1") on the passenger seat did not appear to be removable from the old seat. The driver side large connector (3" x 1") was removable frome the seat and was used to reconnect the seat belt wiring. On the passenger side the small 1/4" x 1/4" seat belat connector was removed from the large connector at the seat and reconnected to the other end of the large connector attached to the wiring on the car underneath the seat..... Is this the culprit?

From everything I've read the dealer is the only one to clear the fault light..... and that's assuming I have figured out the problem or I will get another code.......

My car is a 99 996 C2

Any comments are greatly appreciated.......

You will need a PST, PIWIS or a new software product (that I am currently reviewing) from Durametric Diagnostic Software. The code reported (and read by any of these tools) should tell you what caused the airbag light.

If your MY99 car has never had the seat belt buckle and connector TSB done then it is likely that it needs to be done now. Chances are one of the troublesome connections on the buckles or the wiring connectors is making poor contact. The TSB replaces the connectors (in both the buckles and wiring harness) with gold contact connectors that fix the problem for good in almost all cases.

Loren,

Glad to hear you are reviewing the Durametrics product. It works great on their website!
