1 Source Auto Warranty - out of business

In early December, the Hawaii Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs Insurance Division seized financial control of 1SourceAutoWarranty, First Assured Warranty Corporation, WarranteeWise, and our captive insurer Primeguard Insurance Company, Inc.

At that time, we were advised that the action taken was to conduct an investigation of the companies. We have since learned that the companies are in liquidation status and all activities will be conducted by the Insurance Commissioner of the State of Hawaii under the supervision of the Circuit Court of Hawaii.

We do not have any information regarding the status of existing warranties, claims or reimbursements due. An information hotline has been set up at (808) 586-7412, to handle these inquiries.

One recommendation (from another post) is to: "...contact the Insurance Commisioner's office in your state. If they were licensed to sell in your state then there is usually an insurance fund that all insurance companies pay into to cover claims on insolvent insurance companies. It may take you a while to recover, but they should cover you. However, if they were not licensed in your state, you are probably out of luck."

Follow up:

I talked to the California Insurance Commissioners office and they said I needed to contact the state of Hawaii (which is the where the legal actions are taking place). I went to the Hawaii site and filed a claim. They sent me an email response a couple days later and saying I am now on their list of "potential claimants".

The latest info can be found at: http://www.primeguard.hawaii.gov/
