Next Work on Cars Day?

Hi All,

There hasn't been a Work on Cars day for a while and I was wondering if anybody wants to gather for one. Ofcourse I will be more than happy to supply the pizza and beer if I can get the **** convertible top fixed. If not, does anybody know of a decent mechanic (besides the dealership) around San Francisco, CA that works on Boxsters? Thanks.

I had volunteered to host a "Work on Cars" day, then decided to sell my GT3. Fortunately for me, the GT3 hasn't sold, and I've decided to keep it.

So, I'll be glad to open my garage to a "Work on Cars" event. I have a fairly full tool box, an air compressor with impact wrench and ratchet, and a scissor lift, which makes any suspension/brake/wheel-related work a bit easier.

I'm located in Half Moon Bay.

I for one would be very happy :clapping: and I will bring the pizza and brewski's

I've ordered a decoder to install on my old Dell laptop, I can bring that along for members to use (if it's here before the work on car date)

Thanks

No problem I have a PST 2 and the Durametric Software so codes/faults are taken care of. See if you can get together with Tool Pants and find a location and date...

My HMB garage is still available. Give me some dates, and if I'm not at the track, we can do it here. :jump:

Hi All

Had the pleasure of meeting Loren yesterday. Gave me an excuse to run the GT3 down to his home then back up Hwy 9 to Hwy 35 to Hwy 84 to Hwy 1 to home in Half Moon Bay. :jump: Lots of nice roadway!

Back to a "Work on Cars" day, I'll be hosting one in January. Loren and I were talking about it, and thought trying to do one between now and the first of the year might be tough given folks' Holiday schedules. I'm thinking the 20th or the 27th of January. It'll be at my home in Half Moon Bay. (BTW, by that time the scissor lift will be gone.)

Chime in on a preferred date, please. Also, what work would you like to get done.

I'd like to do an oil change, and change the motor mounts.

I woudl be interested if you dont mind a 951 stopping by. Plus my parents live in HMB so it would be cool.

Hi Joe-

I'd be interested. I need to change the GT3's front rotors and pads, but I might try to do it on my own before then. Would be great to get a code readout, since I didn't know about doing that before I bought the car.

i'm very interested. i collected these over the last 2 months: a rear EVO strut brace, front and rear GT3 sway bars and drop links, and a yellow gauge face (RPM only). I might change my brake pads as well (pagid orange) if there's enough time. Do you guys have any experience in the installations of these things?

Tips from past Work On Cars Days...

1. Make sure you have all of your parts - and that they are the right parts.

2. If you are changing fluids (oil, brake fluid, etc.) - plan to bring something to carry them away in.

3. Plan to clean up any spills or mess you make.

4. Help us plan ahead - tell us what you want to do.

Depending on the number of people/cars we try not to take on anything that will take more than a couple of hours each.

I would try to make it. A few things I'd be interested in observing:

* Motor mounts especially to see of 911 motor mounts might fit Boxsters (i.e. 964RS)

* Anyone still doing OBC hacks

* Seeing how you flush a clutch slave

* Changing of a poly-rib belt

* Checking out how "rattly" a LWFW really is if someone has one

* How you can change front springs without pulling the wheel carriers

I've done a few GT3 front bars. Do you have the shorter end links? I can bring the Loctite ;)

Brake pads are cake. Seems there's some brake pad interest. I have a set of 80% (guess) front OEM Boxster/996 (318mm) pads if anyone wants them. Actually, I think these are the same as rear 996 S/TT (330mm) pads, too.

It's now set for Saturday, January 27th. Please see http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11825, and post there your intention to participate and what work you will want to get done so we can consolidate info at the one place. Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but don't want to start off a new one if this'll do the trick. Is there a "Work on Cars" day planned anytime in the near future/2007? At this point, I don't really have anything on my car (01 Boxster) that needs work, but I'd like to come help out (no experience working on cars, so "learning" is the vested interest here :) and meet some of the folks I've been reading about thus far. Oh, and I'm in south San Jose area.
