GT3 Seat Wiring and seat belt

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of purchase 2 OEM GT3 seats to replace the factory leather seats, I disconnect the factory wiring of the factory seats and removed the seats off the car.

The OEM GT3 seats came with side mount and sliders, but there is no factory connectors came within the seats, what should I do with the cable still lying on the floor (the cable is suppose to connect to the connector under the seat)? Do I have to purchase any extra hardware to avoid any safety voilation?

The factory seat belt, should I remove them?

I would like to purchase a four points seat belt system with the OEM seats, do I have to drill any hole on the car floor? Can I tie the two pieces of shoulder belt onto the Boxster anti-roll over bar, or I have to replace the factory anti-roll over bar with a special anti-roll over that works with four points seat belt system

Honestly, I don't want yo keep the old seat belt, I would like to either have a four or five points seat belt system, did anyone done that before?

I know if I use the old seat belt, all I have to do is to transfer the old seat belt receptable and its cable to the new seats, but I really like to get the four or five points seat belt system, do anyone know where to get a four or five points seat belt system that would work with porsche factory receptable device (which mean the 4 or 5 points seat belt buckle can work with Porsche factory seat belt receptable device/connector)?

Thomas the answer is USE BOTH. When I wear my 5.5 point harness, I connect the factory belt BEHIND the seat, which makes all the Factory electronics happy. As far As I iknow, to stay technically legal you may only use the factory seatbelts on the street, a harness is not a street legal restraint system.

The harness belts should not plug into the factory buckle. This would look stupid, adjust badly, and probably be quite dangerous. Don't try to mix the systems, simply install both and use one or the other as the occasion demands.

When the road is gnarly (say at at a race track, autocross or the Tail of the dragon in the Blue Ridge mountains,) it will be more comforting and less tiring to use a well installed harness. On the long road trip to get to the track or the Blue Ridge mountains, you will be more comfortable wearing the factory 3-point belts.

PS. I think GT3 seats are an excellent choice for tall people and those of us with middle age spread. I haven't found the money for them yet, but imagine I would enjoy them.

pss. What are you are planning for your car? I thought you were replacing/repainting trim pieces for cosmetic upgrades. Now it sounds like you are headed for the track.

Thanks for your advice, at this time I may stay on the factory seat belt system, I really worry about street legal issue. I don't want to get any more ticket at this time. I just want to improve the fun of driving by upgrading the seats, my factory seats have minor crack on the driver seat, I got a quote form the leather repair expert, inorder to fix the seat I need to invest $200-300 dollar, my decision is to replace both seats with GT3 seats and then reseller my factory seats. At first I would like to replace the factory seat belt to 5 points seat belt system due to better looking, but I think I need to re-consider a bit more before I move onto the 5 points system belt system.
