Hello all,

Right a few months ago now my variocam selonoid went bang and the car went to my local opc for the repair. After a week I got a phone call saying that the oil pump had also gone bang too cost £107. A few week later I got a phone call saying that some valves where bent and some tappets where also duff, more money on the car. A week after that I got a call saying that a oxygen sensor had also gone cost £103. Now the opc had my car for seven weeks to do the work and the cost was £1400, because they had the car for so long they only charged me for the original repair, which was the variocam and materials on all the other stuff. At the time I was happy to get the car back and pay the bill.

Now the intresting bit...

Getting my yearly service done at a local independant I told him the story, and he told me the reason it took the opc so long to fix my car. He said that the opc hadn't reset a switch/computer after the repair on the variocam, they had done the work and simply turned the key on the dash which made everything else go bang ( valves etc...) Now this make sense, why didn't the opc find all these faults when they had the car in the first week? Did the variocam fault cause the oil pump to fail or was it their stupidity? I now feel like I have been well and truly done over by the opc and payed for materials that I did not need when the car went in for the variocam repair but have payed for their mistakes!

Now , before I go to the opc on Saturday ( to get an oil leak fixed on the variocam which they have caused!) I need to know from you wise people, If the variocam fails does it mean that the oil pump is faulty in the first place? How long should a repair like this normally take and the cost? depending on your advice, I will be haveing a few words with said opc...
