Removing windshield frame trim and the A-pillar trim

Recommended Posts

HI,

I just ordered the rainsensor kit pn. 996 612 981 00.

I have the TSB for the installation, but on point 1.2 and 1.3 they say:

1.2 After removing the driver's side windshield frame trim and the A-pillar trim, route the harness from

the interior rearview mirror to relay carrier 1.

1.3 Remove the left side vent with headlight switch. (Technical Manual, Group 7, Section 70 18 37).

but I don't know how to execute this 2 points.

Could someone help me?

thank you

The A pillar trim is the covering on the inside of the windshield trim. It is just held in with 2 spring clips and pulls right out. The only thing you need to do to prep for this is to remove the sunvisor mount in the top corner of the windshield frame. The mount has 2 torx screws under a little trim cover. Remove the sunvisor, then grab hold of the A pillar trim from the top, pull toward the middle of the dashboard and up.

Thx Orient express, that's already 1 think, and do you know how to remove the windshield frame trim? I mean the frame that behind the sunvisor, becauseI have to route the cable from the rear view mirror to the fuse box.

You do not have to remove it to pass your wiring to the center lighting bezel. Just remove the sunvisor clip. The top trim piece will be loose now, and you can feed the wiring in from the front side of the trim panel.

You can take off the center light assembly to make it a little easier in running the wires.

The trim around the windshield is in 3 pieces. The way we did it is to remove the visors and the metal plate for the roof latch. To remove the plate pry off the 2 oval alien eyes for the motion sensor and behind them are 2 T30 screws. Then you pull the top trim away from the frame. The side or A pillar also pulls away but you lift it up a bit.

You can get the wire down to the fuse box without removing the side vent. I forget exactly how we did it - I think the just shoved it down to the fuse box..
