Compass Option for PCM 2.1

I show a part number and price as follows:

955 044 900 28 Compass Module -- retail $149.62 (as of Oct 2005)

If you read the TSB (Contributing members can read this online here) it appears that all you are buying is a Porsche access code (IPAS). The IPAS code is similar to the one use for keys/alarm systems so only Porsche can authorize it. The TSB 7/05 9110 PCM2.1 Compass (I No. QR1) dated 9-20-05 states that you get the code from Porsche once you submit the order. Then you use a PIWIS tester to enter the code and unlock the compass option. The TSB says 40 minutes labor but I doubt it takes more than 5 minutes.

Loren are you saying that the pre-wiring is in some cars, I aksed my dealer for this a while ago and they said they had to wire a new antenna through from the back and it was mucho $ to install. Compared to nothing when ordered from new.

The TSB implys that the Compass function is built into the PCM 2.1 and that it just needs to be turned on. It shows no additional parts or work other than the code and a PIWIS tester. Have a look at TSB 7/05 9110 PCM2.1 Compass (I No. QR1) (dated 9-20-2005).

Is that mean I need to order the "955 044 900 28 Compass Module" from the dealer and have the dealer input the code with my vin at their end. The dealer should give me another code (decrped?). Then use the PIWIS tester to enter the decrped code to the vehicle? Thanks.

From the way I read the TSB - yes, as long as you have PCM 2.1. It seems like the process is very similar to programming a new key (from the dealer perspective).

Just spoke to the stealer

looks like they need to add a compass module

plus program the cluster to add compass to the screen.
