I installed the EVO cold air intake on my 2001 Boxster S today. I have to say, I'm quite impressed. I've never been one to get caught up in the manufacturer's hype of added horsepower, so I wasn't expecting much other than a different sound (which is monstrous by the way). As far as the horsepower gains go, evolution motorsports claims it adds up to 9hp....frankly I don't feel it. It's probably more like 3 or 4, and that's hardly noticable. It does, however, increase the throttle response immensly. From about 3000 to 5000 rpm (especially in low gears) it feels like a different car! Much quicker off the line and a bit more passing power. If anyone's thinking of getting this system, I'd highly reccomend it. If nothing else, It's worth it just for the music that comes from the engine!

PS I was wondering if anyone with this intake has had any trouble with the MAF...............

Yup, been there done that. Early in 2002 I installed the EVO intake on my '01 S. The car ran fine for about 6 months or so then started to be difficult to drive when cold. Ultimtely - in the middle of a charity autocross where I was giving rides to local celebs and movers and shakers, it would not idle without me working the throttle. In fact, it would hardly idle at all. At the sugesstion of my local Porsche master tech, I disconnected the MAF and drove home (120miles) with no issues. In fact, I didn't even notice any difference, then again the car was nicely warmed up.

As lots of people had mentioned at the time, the MAF was obviously contaminated with filter oil. I removed it and carefully cleaned the sensor part by dribbling (NOT spraying or rubbing) electrical contact cleaner on it. I also cleaned and re-oiled the filter being sure not to over oil it. Since then, no problems whatsoever. I clean and re-oil the filter once a year during my spring pre-season preparations.

how do you remove the air box? I'm working on mine right now and was struggling to get that thing out. All screws were removed, removed the screws from teh intake manifold and with no luck, the air box is still won't come off. thinking about cutting the air box into small pieces until it's out...any help would be greatly appreciated..(almost passed out today due to hot weather. Was workng on it for 5 hours trying to figure out how to remove it. The outcome: I GOT A MASSIVE HEADACHE!!) and probably was dehydrated...WAIT! i was dehydrated...

That's what I did too....just cut the **** thing out. Wasn't like I was going to put it back in anyway. I do recall however, reading somewhere that if you loosen the engine mounts and drop the engine down about 1/2" the box will come out in one piece. I thought about taking that route, then said the hell with it and just cut it apart.

i know..dropping the engine sounds like a lot of work than cutting the air box and just trashing it. it's always easier to break things than to fix it :D
