Some while ago I stumbled across this article, but only just got round to trying it today: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int6.shtml

It shows how to use the aircon diagnostics in the control unit which was manufactured by Audi. The diagnostics part isn't a great deal of use, but one useful tip is how to change the aircon display from °C to °F, and vice-versa. To quote the article:

Changing Degree Temperature Display

Press and hold the recirculation button. Then press the temperature up ("+") button to

switch between degrees Celsius & Fahrenheit on the Climate Control.

Why this isn't in the owners manual, I have no idea!

Us Boxster owners figured this out about 6 years ago. When I showed this feature to a Porsche mechanic he said this was a feature on the Audi, since the climate control is from an Audi.

This feature is mentioned in the 1998 Boxster and 1998 996 technical introduction booklets. (I got my 1998 996 Booklet from the UK as there was no MY98 in the US.) As stated above, I do not remember this in the older owners manuals.

Then for MY01 the Boxster instrument cluster changed and it would not work.

At least this is what I remember.
