Adding CDC-4 to 997 (MY04)

Hi, I am a UK/GB owner of a 997. I didn't order the CD changer when I spec'd my car and I'm now considering adding one. I've been offered a changer by a guy on ebay, and it seems a good price. UK dealers want £650 for the CD changer and the kit to fit it, and then a further £250 to install it ! That sounds like a huge amount for what I'm sure is a DIY job. I've read through the DIY area of the forum, but there's no instructions there...and I'm not sure what cables are pre-installed in my car....a quick rummage around earlier at the back of my sat nat DVD player I found a single loose cable with a flat black plug on the end....but nothing else back there. Does anyone know if I have to visit the dealer to get them to re-program the PCM to recognise the CD changer or if I bought the cables and mounting brackets myself (£140) can I fit it myself ? any help v gratefully received. (BTW, I was then thinking I've swap the changer to another porsche, maybe another 997 or a Cayman S if I changed cars in 2006)

The cables are not installed in your car as it requires fiber optic cables that match the options your car has. You will need to buy the correct cables from the dealer. The cable, options and part numbers are all covered in the Installation TSB (available to view for Contributing Members). You will also need to have a dealer, independent shop, or race shop with a PIWIS (not PST2 in this case) "turn on" the CDC-4 function once everything is hooked up.

I added the CDC-4 at Christmas and its sooooo easy to fit...don't pay a dealer to do it....just have a play ! make sure you get the right cable for your car (they aren't cheap !) and then take your time fitting it. I didn't need the PCM to be 'told' that it had the CDC-4 it just 'discovered' it, so that was lucky. Let me know if you want detailed fitting instructions.
