My best buddy, who lives about 500 miles away, and I were wondering this:

I just put a B&M shifter in my 2001 TT, and I like it. (I know there’s some controversy over this mod, but mine turned out quite well, shifts very well- although I have to say, getting the SOB shift knob off the original shifter was tough).

Anyway, he has a 97 TT, and he (we) were wondering if the trany and shift linkage are the same, considering the 4 years difference.

He also thinks the shifting throw on his TT is a little long and maybe would like to go to the B&M, but we are both wondering if the car’s trany and shifter stuff is the same or different.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Tnx, Bill

Sorry, no a 996 shifter will not work.

The 993 uses a different transmission and shift linkage (rods vs. cables). I don't think B&M makes a shifter for the 993TT.

How did you get the shift knob off the metal shift rod? It appears to be pressure fitted, not sure, any help would be geatly appreciated. 911ttboy
