Idle speed adjuster valve. This allows air around a closed throttle butterfly valve for idle purposes. This valve is used to stabilize the idle speed on MY99 C2's (non-egas cars).

If you take the two torx screws out (be careful to not lose the paper gasket) then you will see the valve that is rotated by the solenoid. Sometime it gets gummed up with carbon and doesn't rotate - this can be cleaned with spray carb cleaner. Sometimes the solenoid goes bad and doesn't move the valve.

Hi! I did a cleaning of my Throttle Body including removing and cleaning the Idle Control Valve. When I used some compressed air to dry the metal tube part of the valve, a bit of carb cleaner oozed out of the plastic body. It appears that there is a minute hairline crack in the body. All reassembled and car seems to run runs fine. Should I be concerned? What are likely symptoms if crack gets larger? It's a '99 996 C2, non egas with around 60K miles.

There are some threads where people have performed an IACV (idle air control valve) ectomy. Basically drilling out the pins and then dismantling it and doing a very thorough cleaning, then reassembling it with new hardware.

It is an expensive part, and I'm not surprised people have gone to these lengths.

I agree with Loren that if there is a very minute crack it will not matter, because it is inline with the throttle body and shouldn't affect smooth operation of the engine. Keep an eye on it though, if it breaks in half you certainly want to replace it.
