Ok,

I've got a 2001 Boxster S with H&R sport springs that loweres the car 1" front and rear. I've been thinking of buying some new wheels/tires for the car. On the Gemballa website, they reccomend 285/30/zr18 tire with a 18x10.5 wheel for the rear. My question is: Will this tire/wheel combo cause any problems with the springs? I don't want to run into any trouble with rubbing or anything like that. Could someone who knows more about wheels/tires help me out?

Thanks!

Whenever you try to put the biggest possible tire/wheel on a car you run in to individual car characteristics. No two cars are exactly the same. A 285 on a 10.5 wheel can fit. Will it fit you wont know till you try it. It all depends on the offset of the wheel, what brand tire you use and how much camber you have.

As above - this might work - but why not ask Gemballa to put their money where their mouth is? They should be able to guarantee fitment of a wheel/tire/spacer/alignment combination. IMO - As long as you are paying Gemballa prices, you should demand they stand behind their solution.

I just joined this forum. I have a 2001 Boxster S with 18" Ruf wheels and 285 on the back. I have the same concern with a 1" lowering with either H&R or Eibach springs, Will the back tires rub?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

First off, Welcome!

The space is going to be so tight with a 1" drop that I'm afraid the answer is "maybe". I'm successfuly running 275's on 10's, lowered 1.25" and I don't know if I have a spare 10mm to go with a wider tire. Depending on your particular car and the offset of your wheels, you might be able to make everything fit, but I can't give you a definitive "yes".

Tell us the width and offset of your RUF wheels and I might be able to give you more guidance?

Graeme

Thanks Graeme for the greeting! I am not sure what the offset is. I believe it 40 or 50 offset. I can confirmed with Weissach tomorrow. The size is 18x8.5" front and 18x 10" back.

Thanks,

Joseph

Along these lines....with the stock 2003 Boxster 18" sport rims and Pirelli PZero tire sizes, how much spacer can be used to widen the stance F/R, especially if you also plan to use the lowering springs ?

My '01S, when I bought it used, had stock 18" Sport Designs, PZero 225-40 & 265-35, H&R springs and 14 mm spacers with no rubbing. When I replaced the PZeros with Bridgestone S03s, I had slight rubbing on major bumps & dips -- maybe just because the tires were at full tread depth.

Thanks Mickf. Good to know.

Also have a similar question. We currently have a set of Kinesis K28 18" wheels that we took off from our previous 996 C2. While my mom just got her brand new Boxster S (03 model) will those wheels fit? I believe the offset for the Kinesis is 60 or 65? It is 18 x 10 with 285 tires in the back. I know the front will fit perfectly but just wonder if the rear will? If not what can i do to make it fit?

Thanks

Based on my experience, you'll need to get the offset down to about 45mm. This is easily achieved using spacers. Simply subract the width of the spacer from the current wheels offset. So if your wheels have a 65mm offset, you'll need 20mm spacers.

Good Luck,

Graeme
