Guys, as the pics show I've mounted my passport close to the interior lights, high enough to be as effective as possible.

I'd like to get rid of the cumbersome cigarette lighter cable and wire the detector to the light fixture next to it. Probably need to create a voltage drop from 12V to 5V some how, but how easy is it to remove the lenses and to pass a couple of wires through them? Don't want to remove and/or risk breaking things if I don't need to.

Thanks,

Here is what I did. I just "rest" my Detector on the alarm flsaher in the middle of the dash, that ancors the units nicely and I just string the cable to the cigarette lighter socket. Note that I have the cordless Escort but I always use the cord because I believe it has more power that way.

Note also that when I use the wind screen sun guard I just slide the detector out.

I have installed an Escort in my GT3 in, what I think, is a much cleaner way. I've used the power to the passenger side dome light and wired in a short cord (I used a black telephone cord which looks much cleaner). The car's lighting control powers it down when you exit the car and lock it via the remote. Thus it is always on when you are in the car and always off if/when you lock it on exit.post-2529-1128436152_thumb.jpg

The Passport power wiring worked like a charm. But I wired mine to turn off with the driver's side lamp switch, 'cause I didn't find the solder joint on the PC board that would cut off power with the remote key. Where exactly did you solder the +12 plima?

And sorry for the obviously dirty windshield guys, I know, very shabby look for a 996 but I've been on travel for a week. Tomorrow will be a wash and wax day, I promise <_< .

Also, for those of you that would like to increase the volume out of your Ipod or Nomad, here's an idea. Use the Bostaroo to amplify the sound a bit more. Used this little amp on my motorcycles for years now and it still hums along (pun intended) :jump:

very nice job! I connected my power exactly where the passenger side bulb got power. Thus the escort is powered on-continuous/on-car running/off always based on the switch position for the passenger side light.

One more picture of my Nomad set-up. I have under it a non-slip rubber matt so the unit stays put, even while driving in a spirited manner.

What I like about the Nomad is that the push button controls are on either side of the unit so I can blindly work them while driving.
