I have a 99 C4, and this weekend I went for a drive and my ABS light went on along with PSM/off. I did not do any hard braking or anything like that, It just went on during the drive. After pulling over and re-starting the car, the light's went off.

This is the second time this happened this month, eventhough the lights go off after re-starting, I wanted to know if anybody experienced this, or has an idea of what might be causing this.

I am experiencing it on a 2001 turbo. I saw your other post on Rennlist and the reference to MAF problems. Mine started for about a week than the CEL came on and it was a failed MAF (I oiled the K&N, not suppose to do this in a turbo i guess). However, after replacing the MAF, I still get periodic ABS with PSM lights. I had read in another post that a tangled wheel sensor might be breaking the connection periodically and causing the fault. I have also read that chips (ECU upgrades) may be causing the problem as well, I have a cargraphic chip.

Still looking for the answer myself.

When this ABS/PSM Off light stuff occurred in my 2001 Carrera C2 it was due to low brake fluid.

Changed the fluid and filled to the appropriate level and everything has been fine since.

Let me know if this helps!

If it only is the low brake fluid, I will be a very happy man! I would hate to mess around and need to change the MAF sensor.

Darn, its not the brake fluid. Fluid was topped to the max line. Got the codes again this morning on a cold engine accelerating from a stop light.

AS I said before....

Battery...!!!

Motor turning over a bit slower than normal during startup....

I checked my brake fluid also, and it is good. In terms of battery, well I just replaced it in January. No problems in starting, as it turns over on the first try.

I will need to check the ABS sensors.
