Convertible top problem - 1999 Boxster

Day one - I have read several posts and am trying hard to narrow down my problem with the top. Firstly, my issue began at late night when my top would not close after arriving home. After several tries (brake light on) I did try to push the small latch button on the slot (between sensors) and luckily the top cycled and closed properly.

Day two - After thinking about the night before problem - I now was unable to open the top -hmm!!

I started by checking all fuses - allo.k. My windows were lowering a few inches but the top was not opening. After pressing the buttom (between sensors) again my clamshell opened for 5 seconds and then froze and nothing afterwards. Also my windows were lowerd manullay and are now stuck in the lowered position.

In summary - 1) clamshell open up 6-8 inches 2) windows lowered down all the way and not raising 3) roof (dash) button and pressing latch button (betwen sensors) dopes nothing 4) parking brake light is on and working fine.

Help is appreciated kindly.

If your top will not move and the parking brake warning light is on when the engine is running then I would replace the switch that you have been pushing where the locking latch goes. Also ask the parts person for the 2 round clips that hold the switch in place as you cannot reuse your old clips.

Thank for your advise - this forum has been a tremendous help to me.

I require the part number for the latch "micro switch" - any help?

thanks in advance

The switch for a 1999 is 986 613 795 02. The retaining clip is 999 507 534 02 and you need two of them.

In the pic the switch is on the right and the clips below.
