Almost all of the DIYs I have read state to disconnect the NEG side of the battery, but I have not read about disconnecting the POS. Is this true? Do I leave the POS connected when I am doing work (i.e., airbag removal, OBC, etc.). Thanks for your input.......I do not want an airbag blowing up in my face. :o

Yes, that is fine. By disconnecting the negative battery lead you are removing the current path.

My battery does not disconnect. Everyytime I do this the alarm just goes off :cursing:

How can you guys avoid this?

Not sure I understand... we are talking about physically removing the battery cable from the battery. Is that what you are doing?

Netrophile has a UK car with option 536 for insurance reasons. There is an alarm siren, battery back up, and tilt sensor. There is a retrofit kit I was thinking of ordering from Germany.

On a UK car the ignition key must be turned on first, then the main battery disconnected. If you do not have the key on when you disconnect the battery the alarm siren with it's own battery will go off.

When I work on a car that requires the battery to be disconnected, I disconnect just the negative. If you want to replace a battery, for safety reasons, you disconnect the negative first, then the positive. If your wrench is on the positive cable and the wrench touches ground - sparks - if the negative cable is still hooked up. But if you remove the negative cable first and the wrench touches ground - then nothing. When you put in a new battery you hook up positive first, then negative. Not so important on our cars due to the location of the battery in the trunk. Jeff
