I've been getting a chattering noise from the PCM in my 04TT. It starts when I open the door to get in. It doesn't occur all of the time. It used to last just a few seconds. Now when it occurs, it may last a long time, continuing as I drive down the road, then suddenly stops. It sounds like the CD drive. I've ejected the NAV disc, and the noise continues but at a harsher level. Shutting off the PCM does not stop it. The NAV system operates normally. Has anybody else encountered this? Any ideas as to what is going on?

OK, How do I change "nose" to "noise" in the Topic heading? (done - Loren)

Is there a CD (DVD) in the drive?

If so, does it make the noise without it?

Yes Loren. One of the NAV CD's has been in the drive when this noise occurs. I always keep the NAV CD for my region in the drive. I ejected the CD while the noise was occurring. The noise continued for a time after the CD was ejected. The tone of the noise seemed to change when the CD was ejected. It sounded a little louder.

There is a TSB (7-22-2005) that talks a lot about various complaints with PCM 2.1 - but not that one. The TSB is 13 pages long and is available to all Contributing Members.

Unless it is newer than that - and I have not received any TSB updates since July.
